Did you know that “the Christmas Story” starts long before the Lord Jesus Christ was born? Even the first man and woman knew something about it. After they rebelled against God, He promised them a descendant who would defeat Satan. The Bible says that God intended to send Christ before the world was formed. “But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman” (Gal.4:4). In 4-5 B.C., the Son of God came to earth as a man.
There are many fascinating details recorded about the events surrounding the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ. The records of His life are increasingly interesting. All his words and actions were perfectly planned and executed. In 58 A.D., a man named Paul wrote, “For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly” (Rom.5:6). The birth of Christ was planned but so was His death, resurrection, and return to Heaven.
Would God willingly become a human and live a life of poverty? Would anyone willingly suffer without motivation? The Lord Jesus Christ was motivated by two things. He intended to show God’s character and He wanted to save you from your sin. He was punished for you. Someone has to take the penalty for sin and it does not have to be you. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (Joh.3:16). How wonderful that this story is true.
