New Score Pad for Reiner Knizia's Decathlon

The Original

Reiner Knizia has a free print-and-play dice game called Decathlon. The instructions and score sheet available on his website are difficult to understand. This is why I created a new score pad for the game.

Others have created their own version of the score sheet and posted them to Board Game Geek. An idea I found there was to merge the score sheet with a player aid. This is especially helpful because Decathlon is a series of 10 mini-games, each with its own rules.

My Design

I challenged myself to fit my design on The Game Crafter's smallest notepad. I wanted it to have memory aids so I wouldn't have to keep checking the rules as I play. I wanted to find out how much I can fit into such a small space without sacrificing legibility.

Some of the mini-games allow five re-rolls. Rather than count them out loud, my design gives you a place to mark off each re-roll. I also included the heights for the high jump and pole-vault. It uses less space to print the numbers on the sheet - saving the explanation for the rule book.

The original score sheet has columns to record the scores of several players. My version gives each player his own score sheet. And, if you play the game solo, there is a lot less wasted paper.
